Global Business & French Law
A number of universities offer the opportunity to combine the study of French language and culture with French or European Law, preparing their graduates to practice law in French-speaking contexts. Here is just a sampling of graduate programs available to budding lawyers and ardent francophiles who would like to pursue careers in international law.
American University
American University offers a (4-year) dual degree program run jointly by the American University Washington College of Law and the University of Paris X Nanterre. Graduates earn a JD degree from American University and a Master I (JD equivalent) and Master II from the University of Paris in any subject area of their choosing. This program prepares students to practice law in both the United States and France, with the possibility of opportunities in other countries of the European Union.

Columbia University's J.D./Master (3-year) Program in Global Business Law involves two years of study at Columbia Law School, followed by one year of study in Paris (Sciences-Po), culminating in the French Master's in Global Business Law and the U.S. J.D., or Juris Doctorate. As courses are taught in both French and English, students applying to the program must have an intermediate or advanced level of French.
Columbia University also offers a J.D./Master in French Law (4-year) Program consisting of two years of law study at Columbia Law School followed by two years at the University of Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1). Students successfully completing the program will obtain the J.D. degree from Columbia and the Master in Law from Paris 1 and qualify for admission to the bar examinations and the bars in the United States and in France. Interviews for selected students are conducted in French.
